That's Why It's Called "Bako"!
We arrived in Bakersfield in September. It was quite warm but on the cooling trend. There were days in the mid 70's and ones around 100 to 105 degrees.
Even though Lindsey's friends parents and neighbors told me "be prepared for weeks of triple digit heat" I believe now that I was not ready.
First we got the blast of a week straight of 105 to 107 degree days with bright sunshine. Then the same temps but overcast and muggy.
Where we are located at the south most end of the San Juaquin Valley surrounded by mountains on 3 sides it seems logical for the cloud cover to delay here temporarily. But talk about a sauna! Wow! I have been in Tuscan AZ, Spain, Hawaii and Puerto Rico but for some reason I felt more in a sauna here during those few days than any other time.
So...now we know why it's called BAKO. For me a NorthWest native of Seattle Washington anything but rain and drizzle is acceptable. I used to say "the warmer the better" and I still do...unless I have to work in it.
By the way, got the lawn mowed this AM before doing anything else. Someone else can clean the pool and maybe work on her Italian tan because you won't catch me out in it. A good afternoon to find a river and some shade or stay indoors and enjoy the newly refreshed AC.
My niece from Mill Creek Washington who is 18 is coming for a visit in 6 days. We are excited about this and plan a trip to Universal Studios in none other than Universal City CA...about 90 miles from here. She will love the pool my sister says because she either goes to the country club pool in their community or the lake nearby every day in the summer. I sure hope we can keep her cool though! OK Maybe she will do OK. Luckily the temps in Mill Creek are going to be all time highs for this time of the year. Low 90's and Wet Western Washington becomes quite muggy! The higher temperatures will help to condition her and prepare her for for the 10 to 20 degree difference.
Guess just a little worried that she might be too hot and not enjoy her visit.
